35 Sites Included in Bengals Dare to Care Day

All students, faculty, and staff are invited to join Buffalo State President Katherine Conway-Turner for Bengals Dare to Care Day, September 16.

The campus Civic and Community Engagement (CCE) Office is coordinating the day of service that focuses on hands-on projects in conjunction with several community organizations. Sponsored by M&T Bank, Dare to Care runs from 9:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and includes a complimentary lunch for all volunteers.

Thirty-five projects are available for all abilities and interests. They include sorting donations at a homeless shelter, cleaning up a lakeside beach, painting the interior of a downtown market, and planting in community gardens.

“Dare to Care is a great reminder of the many needs in our community and how committing just one morning to a project can make a difference,” said Conway-Turner. “Every year I am inspired by the students who turn out to participate. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together this year.”

Volunteers will meet in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall at 9:15 a.m., select a project to work on, and board buses by 9:45 a.m. When the projects wrap up, buses will return volunteers to campus for a picnic lunch.

This year, the CCE is seeking volunteers to serve as site coordinators at each of the community service locations. They are needed to sign students in, beginning at 8:15 a.m., and serve as liaisons between the CCE and the community partners. Students, faculty, or staff members who are interested in becoming site coordinators must attend a one-hour orientation session on Tuesday, September 12, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Ketchum Hall 200 or on Wednesday, September, 13 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Ketchum Hall 207.
