Katie Anderson, '13, was recently honored with an excellence in journalism award by the Press Club of Cleveland. Anderson, a reporter for the Medina County Gazette in Ohio, was recognized for her coverage of a controversial proposal to run a gas-delivery pipeline through nine Ohio counties.
Anderson's article, “Tensions rise with arrival of NEXUS pipeline letters,” was picked up by the Associated Press and ran in the Chicago Tribune.
“I’m just thankful for how far my career has gone in the two years since graduating from Buffalo State and for the people who helped me get to this point,” said Anderson.
As a Buffalo Student, Anderson was news editor at the Record from 2012 to 2013 and named Outstanding Journalism Student by the Communication Department in 2013.
“In school, I had many professors, mentors, and friends who pushed me to follow my dreams and achieve my goals. I hope this first big career achievement makes those people just as proud as I am. I’m sure I wouldn’t have made it this far without them in my life.”
After graduation, Anderson landed a full-time reporter spot at the Watertown Daily Times in Canton, NY, before moving to her current position.
