A View from the Underside: The Legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a one-man play preformed by Al Staggs, will take place on Thursday Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. in Buffalo State College's Rockwell Hall.

The play, sponsored by the Buffalo State Alumni Association as part of the college's homecoming celebration, will be followed by a panel discussion. Lana Benetovich, executive director for the Western New York Region National Conference for Community and Justice, will moderate the panel, which includes Dr. Allen Podet, professor of Philosophy and Religion at Buffalo State College, and Dr. Julius Slavenas, professor of History and Social Studies.

Staggs brings to life the story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a young German pastor, author and professor at the University of Berlin during the second world war. Bonhoeffer gained notoriety when he became involved in a German resistance movement that plotted to assassinate Hitler. The assassination attempt failed and ultimately resulted in Bonhoeffer's arrest and execution. "A View from the Underside" takes place in Bonhoeffer's prison cell as he awaits execution. There he struggles with evil, injustice and God, themes that touch people of all religions.

Staggs holds a Th.M. degree from Harvard Divinity School and a doctor of ministry degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He served as a minister for 24 years before becoming a full-time artist.

Tickets are $10 ($5 for students) and may be purchased through the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 716-878-3005.
