Alumni Reunion Weekend

Buffalo State alumni who frequented the campus as students in the late 1940s through the early 1960s have the opportunity to connect with classmates and friends July 20–22 during Reunion Weekend.

Buffalo State is celebrating the classes of 1952, 1962, along with alumni who graduated at least 50 years ago. This reunion has attracted a large number of alumni, some of whom are returning to Buffalo State for the first time since they graduated.

"We had various planning committees working on their specific events, and a close group of friends from the classes of 1952 and 1962 took it upon themselves to reach out to as many people as possible," said Nicholas Horwitz Mahoney, events coordinator for the Alumni Association Office. "Some of these people haven’t seen each other in 50 or 60 years. This reunion will give them a chance to catch up on each other's lives and reminisce about the times they shared on the student council, in sports, and in sororities and fraternities."

Reunion participants will have the chance to reminisce amid a lineup of fun activities starting with a welcome reception and barbecue Friday evening at the Burchfield Penney Art Center that includes campus tours.

Members of the Class of 1952 can have lunch together Saturday at the AK Café in the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Meanwhile, members of the Class of 1962 can join their classmates for a private guided trolley tour of Forest Lawn Cemetery Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and a Golden Reunion Reception and Dinner Saturday evening at the Greatbatch Pavilion at the Martin House Complex.

On Sunday afternoon, those who have reached or passed the 50-year mark since graduation can reminisce with others during the 50-Plus Club Reunion Luncheon at the Westwood Country Club. They will induct members of the Class of 1962 into the club.

Already, the response for Reunion 2012 is about double that of last year, Horwitz Mahoney said. Ninety alumni are slated to attend the opening barbecue, and 151 are expected for the 50-Plus Club luncheon. Alumni are traveling from as far as Oregon and Florida while a number of alumni from Western and Downstate New York will be represented.
