Elizabeth Peña, art conservation director and professor, has just returned from a month-long course “Sharing Conservation Decisions” in Italy. She was one of 22 participants selected from around the world and the only American. Sponsored by the International Centre for the Study of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, the workshop focused on decision-making in the interdisciplinary field of cultural heritage and included a collaborative case study at the Sacri Monti of Varallo in the Italian Alps, a site visit to the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence and a behind-the-scenes visit to the Herculaneum. While there, Peña was a Visiting Scholar at the American Academy in Rome.
