The Art Education Department is hosting a juried exhibition, Innovation: Teaching the Future, on view Friday, February 17, through Thursday, March 1, in Upton Hall's Czurles-Nelson Gallery.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. A reception with the student artists will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, in the gallery.
Pieces range from pottery to painting. This year Elisabeth Samuels, director of the Indigo Gallery in Buffalo, will jury the exhibition.
“Prestigious jurors from nearby museums have collaborated with our department in recent years to assure that the highest quality of student works are exhibited," said Shirley Hayes, chair and associate professor of art education. The resulting exhibition choices will be “the caliber one can expect from fine arts majors,” Hayes noted.
Both undergraduate and graduate students are participating in the show that they work toward all year long.
“We encourage our students to have a breadth in many areas—such as printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture or jewelry-making—with depth in one area,” Hayes said. “The choice is up to them.”
The Buffalo State Student Chapter of the National Art Education Association/New York State Art Teachers Association organized and carried out the exhibit.
