WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (5-4, 2-0) Buffalo State Downs Daemen

Buffalo State improved its record to 5-4 on Thursday in its only game of the week, as it defeated Daemen 63-52.

After falling behind by as many as nine points early in the first half at Daemen, the Bengals used a 13-4 run over the final seven minutes of the opening stanza to take a 32-24 lead into the intermission. Daemen rallied to tie the score midway through the second half, but Buffalo State responded again with a 16-3 run to put the game out of reach. Abby Kochan (Newport/West Canada) led three Bengals in double-figures with 17 points and added 11 rebounds. Desiree Gibson (Rochester/Edison Tech) tallied 13 points and Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) added a career-high 11. Monique Hanks (Liverpool/Liverpool) scored all eight of her points in the second half and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Who?s Next?

The Bengals will host William Smith on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before returning to conference play on Friday and Saturday when Potsdam and Plattsburgh visit the Sports Arena.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (7-3, 2-0) Buffalo State Wins Holiday Inn Title

Buffalo State rolled past Hilbert and D'Youville this weekend to earn the championship in the Buffalo State Holiday Inn Invitational.

On Friday, Buffalo State led Hilbert (0-9) by just four at the intermission, but used a 21-4 run to open the second half to cruise to a 79-61 victory. Josh Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) and Perry Davis (Buffalo/Seneca) each recorded double-doubles to lead the Bengals. Becker scored 22 points and grabbed 12 boards, and Davis tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Roche (Williamsville/Williamsville East) added 12 points for Buffalo State.

Buffalo State scored 50 points in the second half to take an 84-66 victory over D'Youville (3-9) in Saturday's championship. Buffalo State trailed the entire first half did not take the lead for good until 8:43 remaining, before sprinting to the 18-point win. Twin brothers Justin and Jeremy Konst (Williamsville East) combined for 29 of the Bengals points, scoring 16 and 13 respectively. Becker added 15 points, and Davis scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Who's Next?

Buffalo State returns to SUNYAC play this weekend when it hosts Postdam on Friday and Plattsburgh on Saturday.

Honors?

Josh Becker (Hamburg/Frontier) was named the MVP of the Holiday Inn Invitational after averaging 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and six assists. Perry Davis (Buffalo/Seneca) was selected to the all-tourney team. Davis averaged 13 points and 11.5 rebounds.

MEN'S HOCKEY (3-9-1/2-5) - Buffalo State Returns to Action This Weekend

Buffalo State will return to action this weekend as it travels to Milwaukee Engineering for a pair of non-conference games. The Bengals welcome freshman Mike Zalewski (Grand Rapids, IN/Bancroft Hawks), a transfer from SUNYAC rival Potsdam, to the line up. Senior Joe Urbanik (Calumet City, IL/Waterloo) needs just one point to become Buffalo State's all time leading scorer with 117 points.
