Brockport Rallies Past Men's Basketball, 102-93

BUFFALO, NY—Brockport (11-8/7-3) overcame a 15-point second-half deficit to defeat host Buffalo State (9-10/3-7), 102-93, tonight in a SUNYAC game at the Sports Arena.

Buffalo State sprinted out of the gates, taking a 33-18 point lead. Brockport responded with an 11-1 run late in the opening half to close the gap to 52-51 at halftime. The Bengals used a 15-2 run early in the second half, and reestablished the 15-point advantage at 76-61 with 13:43 remaining. Brockport responded again, taking its first lead of the game with 4:19 remaining, and did not allow the Bengals to get back in front. Brockport shot 56.7-percent from the field for the game, and 66.7-percent (10 of 15) from three-point range. Buffalo State hit 50-percent from the floor, but just 26.9-percent from long range.

Kenny Amparo (Yonkers/Charles Groton) and John Rother (Sodus Point/Sodus) led the Golden Eagles with 19 points each. Jerry Cheves (Brockport/Brockport) added 17 points and five assists, and the SUNYAC’s leading scorer Ben Bellucci (Cicero/CNS) had 15 points, all in the second half.

Brockport-transfer Charles Hepburn (Rochester/Greece-Arcadia) led six Bengals in double-figures with a career-high 21 points. Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham) had 16 points, four assists and three steals. Dion Mozelle (Rego Park/Xaverian) had 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Dante Griggs (Bronx/Chester Acad.) had 11 points and 10 boards.

Buffalo State will travel to Oswego this Friday for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
