Buffalo State and McDaniel Advance to Championship of Abgott Invitational in Women's Basketball

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State and McDaniel (MD) posted victories today in the opening games of the Betty Abgott Invitational tonight at the Buffalo State Sports Arena. McDaniel defeated Farmingdale 91-66 in the opener, and the Bengals beat Penn State Altoona 67-56 in the nightcap.

McDaniel took the lead just over a minute into the opening game and cruised to a 25-point victory. Kristy Costa (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) led the Green Terror with 20 points and six rebounds. Katy Powell (Smithsburg, MD/Smithburg) added 17 points, and Kelly Cramp (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) was also in double-figures with 11 points. Farmingdale was led by Karen King’s (New York, NY) 23 points and nine boards, and Danielle Houpe (Bellport, NY) chipped in 12 points.

In the nightcap, Buffalo State trailed Penn State Altoona by as many as nine points in the first half before rallying for an 11-point win. Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) led the Bengals with a career-high 22 points and eight rebounds. Junior Beth Hogan (Great Valley/Salamanca) scored 18 points in her debut with Buffalo State. Tara Stock (Martinsburg, PA/Central) was the leading scorer for Altoona with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Lindsey Barr (Altoona, PA/Altoona) scored 13 points and grabbed seven boards.

Buffalo State and McDaniel will meet in tomorrow’s championship game at 3 p.m., preceded by Farmingdale and Penn State Altoona in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
