Buffalo State College-Based Project FLIGHT Announces Scholarship Opportunity

Project FLIGHT, a family literacy program based at Buffalo State College, is taking applications for its annual scholarship. Submissions for the $1,500 award, designed to recognize an outstanding woman student who has overcome obstacles to pursue a degree in higher education, must be received by Sept. 6, 2002.

Any woman student who has been accepted or is currently enrolled at a fully accredited college or university is eligible to apply.

The scholarship, which has been awarded since 1996, is endorsed by the New York State Division for Women Western New York Advisory Council.

The first recipient, Tonia Oates, graduated from Erie Community College with honors in nursing and works at The Children's Hospital of Buffalo. In 1997, the scholarship was awarded to Monica McConcie, who graduated with honors from Niagara University's social work program and now works at a hospice facility. The 1998 winner, Mary Colvin, graduated with honors from Buffalo State College with a major in computer information systems. Shannon Urban, the 1999 recipient, was a student majoring in radiologic technology at Trocaire College. The 2000 recipient was Elizabeth Date, a graduate student at the University at Buffalo. The 2001 recipient was Lynn Muscato, an undergraduate student in exceptional education at Buffalo State College.
