Buffalo State College Presents "Songs My Father Taught Me," a Compilation of Songs from the 40s and 50s
A taste of post-war Midwest America is coming to Buffalo State College on Oct. 27. Dr. Charles Bachman, Buffalo State College English professor, will sing songs he heard his father sing in his Iowa home growing up in the 40s and 50s. The performance, "Songs My Father Taught Me," will be held in the Burchfield-Penney Art Center at 2 p.m. Bachman will be accompanied by his wife, Nancy Townsend, on the piano.
A baritone, Bachman has sung in 27 roles in opera and other music drama with organizations including Opera Rochester, Western New York Opera Theatre and Opera Sacra. Bachman says he wanted to perform this program for a number of years because the songs his parents sung to him were a significant contribution to his own musical career.
Nancy Townsend has been an official pianist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions for more then 20 years, working with some of the world's finest singers. She has also worked with numerous opera companies including the Greater Buffalo Opera.
A Buffalo State College Arts and Humanities Month event, this program is free and open to the public.
