Buffalo State Expert: Planetary Geologist Kevin Williams Discusses Pluto

Google “Pluto Revealed” and you’ll find that stargazers around the world have their eyes, not on the sky, but on the nearest screen that will show the first-ever close-up images of Pluto beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.

Planetary geologist Kevin Williams, director of the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium at Buffalo State, is available to shed some light about the images and the information they will convey to scientists.

"Pluto is the last of the classical planets in our solar system to remain unexplored," said Williams. "Being able to explore the surface of an object almost 5 billion miles away is one of humanity’s most astonishing and inspiring achievements.” said Williams, whose research involves unraveling the geologic history of other planets. “I can’t wait for the world to finally see Pluto’s secrets up close.”

Williams will lead “Pluto Revealed!.” a presentation at the Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium, on Wednesday, July 15, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
