With 10,000 freshman applications now in for 1,400 available freshman slots, Buffalo State College today announced that its freshman class is completely full and the college cannot accept new applications for the fall '07 semester.
The flood of applications marks a 15-year record in terms of the number of applicants and the speed of applying. Over the past two years, there has been a 15% increase.
Lesa Loritts, director of the Admissions Office at Buffalo State College, attributes the increase to several key factors, including highly sought after programs such as Fashion Technology, Psychology, and Forensic Chemistry, as well as the college's long-standing curriculum, which emphasizes strategic problem solving and hands-on learning.
"We've got what students, parents and employers want - at an affordable price," said Loritts. Buffalo State's tuition is $4,350 per year for an in-state resident.
Of the 10,000 freshman applicants, 40 percent are from the New York metropolitan area, 25 percent from Erie County and 35 percent from other areas of New York State, including Niagara County.
"Applicants from around New York City are attracted to our urban location and students from Western New York enjoy the diversity that New Yorkers bring to the campus," said Loritts.
Buffalo State College is still accepting applications for transfers but Loritts urges them to apply quickly. Two thirds of the available 1,100 slots are full.
