Buffalo State Honors Young Alumnus Achievers

Buffalo State College held its second annual Young Alumnus Achievement Awards ceremony and reception on Oct. 3, in the Fireside Lounge in the Campbell Student Union on the campus at 1300 Elmwood Ave.

Held in conjunction with the college’s Homecoming Weekend, the event feted six graduates who were honored for their professional advancement, dedication to the community and commitment to the college and its mission.

They are:

Randy Burd, a 1994 graduate who is an assistant professor of radiation oncology at Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia;

Kenneth Conner, a 1985 graduate who is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine;

Robert Denning, a 1990 graduate who is president and CEO of Perry’s Ice Cream Co., Inc., of Akron, N.Y.;

Sam Hoyt, a 1992 graduate who is a member of the New York State Assembly from Buffalo’s 144th District;

Gerald Mead, a 1985 graduate who is curator of education and outreach at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center at Buffalo State; and,

Sundra Ryce, a 1996 graduate who is president and CEO of SLR Contracting and Service Co. Inc.

Mylous Hairston, anchor and news reporter for WIVB-TV, Ch. 4, and a 1986 graduate of Buffalo State, will serve as master of ceremonies. The cost of the event is $10.
