Buffalo State has been named a Military Friendly School for 2015 by Victory Media and will be included in the all-new online Schools Matchmaker tool, hosted on GIJobs.com.

The Military Friendly Schools designation is awarded to the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students and to dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation. The methodology used for making the Military Friendly Schools list has changed the student veteran landscape to one much more transparent. The program and has played a significant role over the past six years in capturing and advancing best practices to support military students across the country.

The more than 1,600 colleges, universities and trade schools on this year’s list prioritize the recruitment of students with military experience. These schools are making the grade by offering scholarships and discounts, veterans’ clubs, military credit, and other services to those who served.

Some of the reasons that Buffalo State received this designation include small class size, one of the lowest tuition rates in the state of New York, and a “veterans’ one-stop center” managed by a veteran coordinator. The college also has a student Armed Forces Organization, which is recognized by Student Veterans of America.

"Buffalo State prides itself on providing extensive services for our veterans, active-duty members of our military, and their dependents," said Margaret Shaw-Burnett, associate vice president for Buffalo State’s Continuing Professional Studies. "This includes offering flexible classes and providing a working partnership between Buffalo State and the Student Armed Forces Organization to provide an easy transition from military to civilian life."

The 2015 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide. A full story and detailed list of Military Friendly Schools  will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools and on a poster, both of which will be distributed to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel. The militaryfriendlyschools.com website features the list, interactive tools, and search functionality to assist military veterans with their school decisions.
