Buffalo State Offers Scholarships For Miss Buffalo Finalists

Buffalo State College will offer scholarships totaling more than $30,000 to the winner and four runners-up in the Miss Buffalo 2002 Scholarship Pageant, to be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at 3 p.m. in Rockwell Hall at Buffalo State College.

Miss Buffalo 2002 will be eligible for an award that includes a full-tuition scholarship, campus housing and fees, totaling a maximum of $20,000. Each of four runners-up will be eligible for an academic year's tuition scholarship totaling a maximum of $3,400 each. To redeem the scholarships, they will be required to maintain a 3.0 grade-point average and be enrolled as full-time undergraduate or graduate students.

The in-kind scholarships from Buffalo State are in addition to another anticipated $5,000 in cash scholarships to be awarded to Miss Buffalo 2002 and the four runners-up, as well as the non-finalist talent and interview winners.

This Miss Buffalo 2002 Scholarship Pageant is limited to 20 contestants. No entry or sponsorship fees are charged to any contestant, at any level of the competition.

The Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit, volunteer organization that awards more than $40 million annually in scholarships at the local, state and national level. The Miss Buffalo pageant is an official Miss America preliminary pageant open to women between the ages of 17 and 24 who are residents or full-time students in Erie County. Applications, which must be received no later than Dec. 15, can be downloaded from the Miss Buffalo Web site, which also contains qualification for participants.
