The Buffalo State Percussion Ensemble joins forces with renowned solo percussionist Lynn Vartan, Friday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.

Lynn Vartan is the director of percussion at Southern Utah University and a critically hailed marimbist. Vartan’s recorded works with the Southwest Chamber Music ensemble have earned two Grammy nods and her live performance style was described by the Los Angeles Times as “the model of a musical action painter.”

"This concert will be a benchmark performance for the percussion program at Buffalo State College,” said Brad Fuster, chair and professor of music and director of the percussion ensemble. “I'm proud of the very fine work the student percussionists have evidenced. I'm also overjoyed to be able to bring professional and renowned guest percussion artists to the Performing Arts Center."

The performance will include works for traditional percussion instruments by such notable composers as Mario Gaetano, Steve Pemberton, Julie Spencer, and others. This concert will also feature special guest appearances by Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra principal percussionist Mark Hodges and assistant principal timpanist Dinesh Joseph.
