Buffalo State Professor Named President-elect of Council on Undergraduate Research

Jill K. Singer, Ph.D., a professor at Buffalo State College, has been named president-elect of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) at CUR's 24th annual business meeting at Connecticut College, New London, Connecticut, in June 2002. She was also named CUR Volunteer of the Year for both her formal and informal service to the organization. CUR supports and promotes high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship.



Singer, a geologist, has served as chair of CUR's Geoscience Division for six years. She co-chairs the Summer Fellowships Committee, facilitates at CUR-sponsored institutes that help colleges initiate or formalize undergraduate research programs, and organizes CUR events with the Geological Society of America, to which she belongs. She is also Program Officer for the Geosciences at the National Science Foundation, Division of Undergraduate Education in Washington, D.C.



Singer, a long-time leader in undergraduate research at Buffalo State, is a key organizer of the annual Student Research and Creativity Celebration. This event showcases student research in the natural sciences, the social sciences, pedagogy, and the arts. Singer, who earned her doctorate at Rice University, has been a member of Buffalo State's faculty since 1986.
