Buffalo State 's Track and Field Teams Fare Well at SUNYAC Meet
Buffalo State's men's and women's track and field teams posted several impressive showings at the SUNYAC Championships in Kingston, NY on Saturday, as the men placed third of nine teams, while the women avenged a last place finish a year ago by finishing fifth this year.
Justin Muise (Kenmore West) and Alton West (Patuxent, MD) highlighted the individual accomplishments on the men's side, each capturing an individual SUNYAC title. Muise won the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.80, and West earned the championship in the long jump with a leap of 6.52 meters. Michael Taylor (Maryvale) and Dan Conti (Maryvale) completed the sweep of the top three spots in the long jump with distances of 6.42 and 6.28 meters respectively. Muise, West, Conti and Eugene Overton (Corcoran) also combined to win the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 42.52.
On the women's side, Celestine Coney (Lyons) and Linda Williams (Edison Tech) each won individual titles. Coney was the champion in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.52, and Williams won the 100-meter dash in 12.61. Desiree Gibson (Edison Tech) placed second behind Williams in 12.84, and also grabbed the runner-up position in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.33. Williams, Coney, Gibson and Autumn Hensel (Akron) also combined to take the title in the 4x100-meter relay with a new school record time of 49.70.
