Buffalo State Student-Athletes Take Time Out to "Clean Up" Buffalo

More than 200 Buffalo State student-athletes volunteered this past Sunday to take part in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Community Service Day.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) on the campuses of each SUNYAC institution simultaneously led groups of student-athletes on community service projects. The athletes at Buffalo State worked in conjunction with the City of Buffalo Mayor’s office, cleaning up the general areas surrounding Buffalo State College. The students spent three hours raking leaves, removing graffiti and picking up trash in the community surrounding the campus.

“This was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to make a difference in the community surrounding their college,” said Meg Stevens, Director of Buffalo State’s CHAMPS Life Skills Program.

The CHAMPS program at Buffalo State is a comprehensive program of life skills that provides educational experience and services in order to develop well balanced lifestyles for student-athletes. Its goals are to encourage growth in decision making, planning and fulfillment of career and life goals, and to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the college setting.
