Buffalo State Student-Athletes Walk to Support Breast Cancer

Nearly 150 Buffalo State student-athletes braved Sunday's cold and damp weather to help kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the annual 5K walk, “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.”

The Bengals joined breast cancer survivors and their loved ones in the walk to raise money for the American Cancer Society and its breast cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient-service programs. The walk started and ended in Niagara Square.

Buffalo State's involvement was coordinated by the co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Paige Ottaviano. A two-sport athlete on the women's volleyball and lacrosse teams, Ottaviano's mother, Tracey, is a breast cancer survivor.

"It's good to see the growing awareness concerning breast cancer and early screening and it was a great event to see how many survivors there are in the area,” Ottaviano said. “I am really proud of our student-athletes for turning out to support this great cause despite the weather.”
