Buffalo State Takes Part in Day of Caring on August 20

Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff have signed up to take part in the 2014 Day of Caring on Wednesday, August 20. This annual event is sponsored by the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County. Michael LeVine, vice president for finance and management, is chair of Buffalo State’s 2014 SEFA campaign. Margaret Shaw-Burnett, associate vice president of Continuing Professional Studies, is serving as a team leader for the Day of Caring.

"We have a long history of being active in the Western New York community," said LeVine. "We are pleased to be part of this year’s Day of Caring because it helps our faculty, staff, and students see directly how the United Way positively impacts the organizations it supports."

Buffalo State volunteers will be at Concordia Cemetery to help the Concordia Cemetery Association raise sunken stones, fill soil depressions, trim trees and shrubs, and otherwise help tidy the cemetery, which is located at 438 Walden Avenue, Buffalo. The cemetery, one of the oldest in Western New York, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. More than 16,000 people are buried there, including more than 125 veterans of the Civil War.

Volunteers will also lend a hand at Jewish Family Service of Buffalo and Erie County, where they will help organize and clean the resettlement donation room.

Both efforts will take place from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
