Buffalo State’s Casting Hall Productions will present Noises Off beginning Thursday, March 3, at 8:00 p.m. in Upton Hall’s Warren Enters Theatre. Subsequent shows will be held on March 4, 5, 10, 11, and 12 at 8:00 p.m. and on March 5 and 12 at 2:00 p.m.
The three-act farce, written by English playwright Michael Frayn in 1982, depicts a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing On.
Noises Off director Jennifer Toohey, assistant professor of theater, said producing this farce highlights the comic talents of the nine-member cast (and five understudies).
“We chose Noises Off because it’s one of the funniest farces ever written and provides lots of unique challenges for the students,” said Toohey. “They have to basically put two plays on at once, as the second act reveals the action happening backstage during one of the performances of the play within the play."
Along with the students actors, a stage manager, two assistant stage managers, and a prop designer all contributed to the production.
Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for Buffalo State faculty, staff, and alumni, and other students and seniors; and $6 for Buffalo State students. High school students are admitted for free.
Tickets may be purchased by phone (716) 878-3005, ordered online or in person at the Rockwell Hall Box Office.
