The Buffalo State Chamber Choir, under the direction of Victoria Furby, assistant professor of music, will perform at the annual New York State Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Observance on Monday, January 21, at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, New York.
The State University of New York (SUNY) is cosponsoring the event and providing support to broadcast the ceremony which begins at 10:00 a.m. Time Warner Cable will carry the events from Albany on channels 20 and 87 for Erie and Niagara counties.
“SUNY is proud to sponsor and participate in New York’s annual observance of Martin Luther King Jr.—an insightful leader who has inspired generations to reach their potential,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher in a press release.
The Chamber Choir’s performance will highlight a section of the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of King’s famous march on Washington—where he delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.
“We’re grateful to have this wonderful opportunity for Buffalo State’s talented choir to perform at such an important event that will honor and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, a leader who has served as a beacon of hope and inspiration and a model of courage throughout our nation,” said Buffalo State President Aaron Podolefsky.
