Commencement 2011: May 14
Buffalo State will confer degrees on more than 1,900 undergraduate and 650 graduate students during its 139th Commencement celebration, Saturday, May 14, in the Sports Arena.
Aaron Podolefsky, installed as Buffalo State’s eighth president in October 2010, will welcome degree candidates and guests at the morning (10:00 a.m.) and afternoon (2:00 p.m.) baccalaureate ceremonies and the evening (6:00 p.m.) master’s hooding and C.A.S. ceremony.
The following graduates of the Class of 2011 will be honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence in recognition of their academic and extracurricular achievements, leadership, and service: Stephanie N. Berberick, Kathryn S. Boughton, Christopher R. Guidarelli, Watoii T. Rabii, and Justin L. Wojcik.
Berberick and Rabii will address the audience at the morning and afternoon ceremony, respectively, as recipients of the President’s Medal for Outstanding Undergraduate Student. Wojcik will deliver an address at the evening ceremony as the recipient of the President’s Medal for Outstanding Graduate Student.
The President’s Distinguished Service Award will be presented to John T. and Susan Hoskins at the afternoon ceremony. The Hoskinses, owners of Buffalo-based Curtis Screw Company, are longtime supporters of Buffalo State. John currently serves as chair of the Buffalo State College Council.
In addition, Distinguished Alumnus Awards will be presented to Stephen V. Musolino, ’76, certified health physicist, U.S. Department of Energy, Brookhaven National Laboratory; and Bob Williams, ’79, vice president of communications, National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Individual profiles of commencement award winners will appear in the Daily Bulletin beginning on May 3.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates and join them in celebration on this special day by marching in the academic procession or by serving as a volunteer. Volunteers are still needed for the 10:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. ceremonies. More information is available online.
