Concert to Feature BPO Timpanist, Two Buffalo State Percussion Ensembles
Matthew Bassett, principal timpanist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO), highlights a percussion concert hosted by the Buffalo State College Music Department, Wednesday, April 14, at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.
Joining Bassett on stage will be the college’s nine-member percussion ensemble. The program includes: Equilateral by composer Daniel Adams; Feast by Bill Douglas; Game Over by Dan Moore (Bassett as soloist); Second Construction by John Cage; IV by Johanna Beyer.
The concert also marks the debut of the college’s 15-member West African Drumming Ensemble, under the direction of faculty member Tiffany Nicely. The group will perform traditional rhythms of Guinea on djembe and dundun drums.
