Katherine Conway-Turner, president of Buffalo State College, will be recognized by the Girl Scouts of Western New York as a 2019 Women of Distinction honoree on September 26.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Hyatt Regency, where Conway-Turner will receive her award from her Girl Scout mentee, who will also introduce her with a speech.
Women of Distinction serves both as a fundraiser and as an opportunity to honor local women “for their strength in character, dedication to community service, and commitment to mentoring and encouraging girls and young women,” as explained via the program’s website.
The organization selected Conway-Turner for her display of professional leadership as well as her community outreach initiatives, including her signature campus-driven Bengals Dare to Care Day, which sees hundreds of Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff volunteer around Buffalo each year in various capacities.
In addition to campus initiatives, she serves on boards for local organizations such as the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County, the Western New York Women’s Foundation, and Say Yes Buffalo’s Operating Committee, among others.
Women of Distinction is a “completely girl-run and girl-led” event and will feature over 300 community and corporate leaders in attendance.
