Cortland Outlasts Women's Basketball, 61-58
BUFFALO, NY—Dani Maye (Kirkwood/Windsor) scored 23 points and had nine rebounds as Cortland (8-2/3-0) held on to defeat Buffalo State (3-8/0-3) in a SUNYAC battle tonight at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
Cortland opened the contest on an 11-0 run, but Buffalo State pulled back in the game and actually led by as many as five points in the second half. Cortland reclaimed the lead for good with 7:41 remaining, and held on despite two Buffalo State three-point attempts to tie in the final 10 seconds. Buffalo State held a 50-34 advantage in rebounding.
Maye’s 23 points came on 9-of-17 shooting from the field and she hit 2-of-3 free throws. Sara Cavanaugh (Hastings-on-the-Hudson/Hastings) joined Maye in double-figures for the Red Dragons with 16 points. Kristen Egan (Oyster Bay/Oyster Bay) added 11 assists in the win.
Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) led the Bengals scoring all 15 of her points in the second half. She also had 10 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Tawan Slaughter (Buffalo/Christian Central) and Lindsay Smith (Ithaca/Ithaca) each scored 10 points. Darnika Moseley (Liverpool/Liverpool) added eight points and 14 rebounds for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will travel to SUNYIT this Friday.
