Cortland Rallies to Down Women's Hockey, 2-1
BUFFALO, NY—Cortland (2-4-2/1-3-1) scored two power play goals and defeated host Buffalo State (2-3-2/1-3-2), 2-1, in an ECAC West game today at the Ice Arena.
Julie Ruszala (Cheektowaga/ Lancaster) got Buffalo State on the board first, scoring her first of the season in the eighth minute of the opening frame, assisted by Sam Simpson (Fairbanks, AK/West Valley). Heather Crowley (Brasher Falls, NY) tied the game for Cortland at 16:39 with her third goal of the season. Maggie Henty (Syracuse, NY) scored the game winner for the Red Dragons just two minutes into the second frame to seal the win.
Shannon Anesetti (Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) made 16 saves for Buffalo State and Melissa Stern (Shoreham, NY) had 26 saves for Cortland.
Buffalo State will travel to nationally-ranked Elmira next Saturday and Sunday for another pair of ECAC West games.
