Cortland Stops Men's Basketball, 99-84
CORTLAND, NY--Top-seeded Cortland (23-3) exploded past visiting No. 8 Buffalo State (13-13), 99-84, ending the Bengals' season tonight in a SUNYAC quarterfinal contest at Corey Gymnasium.
The Red Dragons never trailed, while posting their highest offensive output of the season, topping their previous best by 13 points. Cortland led 48-34 at the intermission and led by as many as 25 in the second frame before settling for the 15-point victory. Cortland shot 66.7-percent from the field from the game, compared to 41.7-percent shooting by the Bengals.
Frank Ranieri paced Cortland with a game-high 26 points, hitting 12 of 14 attempts from the floor. Simon Skrelja added 21 points and nine boards, and Rod Headley had 16 points and six boards.
Dion Mozelle (Rego Park/Xaverian) led Buffalo State with 17 points and five rebounds. Dante Griggs (Bronx/Chester Academy) had 15 points and five boards. Charles Hepburn (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) and Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham) each scored 11, and Jobany Tirado (Syracuse/Corcoran) had 10.
