Daemen Captures the Title at the Buffalo State Men’s Soccer All-America Classic

BUFFALO, NY—Daemen edged host Buffalo State, 2-1, to claim the championship in the Men’s Soccer All-America Classic today at Coyer Field. Geneva defeated Hilbert, 2-0, in the early game.

In the title game, Scott Jablonka (Baldwinsville/CW Baker) netted the game winner with a header on a cross from Jordan Andrecolich (Chili/Churchville-Chili) early in the second half. Buffalo State had taken a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on a goal by freshman Tony Schiappa (Williamsville/Williamsville East), but the Wildcats evened the count at 1-1 in the 34th minute on a goal by Zane Tester (Youngstown/Lew-Port) with an assist from Jablonka. Buffalo State outshot the Wildcats, 15-10, but Jeff Spencer (Depew/Depew) made seven saves for Daemen.

Scott Swartley (Perkasie, PA) scored two first-half goals for Geneva in the second game to give the Golden Tornadoes their first victory as a Division III program. Russ Picard (Coraopolis, PA) added an assist, and Sam McCracken (Beaver Falls, PA) needed to make just one save for the shutout. Chris Hannel (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) had 16 saves in goal for Hilbert, as Geneva outshot the Hawks, 30-7.
