Day Two of Swimming & Diving SUNYAC Championships in the Books

BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State wrapped up the second day of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships today at the Erie Community College Flickinger Aquatic Center in downtown Buffalo. Through 26 total events, the Bengals men are eighth of nine teams, and the women are ninth.

On the men’s side, the Bengals top event was the 400-yard individual medley, which saw Kevin Buisman (Penfield/ Penfield) placed seventh (4:27.35), John Bakula (Grand Island/ Grand Island) was 12th (4:39.12) and Vince Wasneechak (Gorham, ME/ Lemoore CA) was 13th (4:45.33). Scott Banks (N. Tonawanda/ Niagara Wheatfield) placed 15th (56.00) in the 100-yard butterfly, and Tim Harroun (Tonawanda/ Tonawanda) placed 13th (1:03.03) in the 100-yard breast. Cory Skiba (Buffalo/ Kenmore West), Rich Aguilo (Wantagh/ Wantagh), Harroun and Banks finished eighth (1:43.96) in the 200-yard medley relay.

Elisabeth Hilzen (Glen Rock, NJ/ Glen Rock) was the lone individual to compete for the Bengals’ women this evening, placing 16th (1:14.48) in the 100-yard breast. Laura Pino (Niagara Falls/ Niagara Wheatfield), Ashley Remmes (Grand Island/ Grand Island), Kelly Swanson (Amherst/ Amherst) and Hilzen swam the 200-yard medley relay and placed eighth (2:08.18).

The championship meet will conclude tomorrow. The prelims will begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will start at 6 p.m.
