D’Youville College education majors who apply to Buffalo State won’t have to pay the customary application fee. On November 4, D’Youville announced a restructuring of its education programs, which will be suspended until at least 2020. To make the transition less painful for the D’Youville students, Buffalo State’s School of Education is picking up the tab for the SUNY application fee.
“We are working with D’Youville College to ensure that students who want to become teachers have every opportunity possible available to them,” said Wendy Paterson (at left), dean of the School of Education at Buffalo State. “We understand this unexpected transition in their college plans is difficult, and we want to do anything we can to help them find the best possible path to certification here.”
Because admission standards are similar, students who were accepted into D’Youville’s education programs will be automatically accepted and transferred into similar programs at Buffalo State. “We welcome both undergraduate and graduate teacher education candidates from D’Youville,” said Paterson.
SUNY has recently affirmed its commitment to developing best practices for preparing teachers through its TeachNY policy proposals. As a flagship institution for SUNY teacher education since its earliest days in the 1800s, Buffalo State continues to support a high-quality teacher workforce in New York. With seamless transfers within SUNY and other articulation agreements with independent colleges, SUNY is home for a number of teacher candidates throughout the state. Paterson, who represented SUNY deans on the TeachNY Advisory Board, said, “We are happy to invite D’Youville students to explore all that our teaching programs at Buffalo State offer, including our nationally renowned Professional Development Schools and our options for international study as well. Our objective is to prepare highly effective teachers for New York, our country, and our world.”
Interested D’Youville students should contact the Admissions Office at Buffalo State at (716) 878-4017 or admissions@buffalostate.edu.
