Experts Bring Creativity Studies to the Community

The International Center for Studies in Creativity at Buffalo State invites the public to join educators and students at talks about creativity as part of its Creativity Expert Exchange (CEE) conference. The CEE talks will be presented by creativity educators and experts, and they will follow the short, engaging model made popular by the TED talks format.

Eleven presenters will speak on Sunday, October 15.

Sample of the speakers and topics

Museum educator Jayme Cellitioci creates immersive learning experiences at the National Innovators Hall of Fame. She will speak on “Wonder is my Compass: the Democratization of Science.”
Award-winning speaker Tamara McMillan, lecturer of creativity, will describe the intersection of authenticity and creativity in “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of MEE!”
Susan Keller-Mathers, associate professor of creativity, believes “our creativity is developed when we are willing to embrace the unknown.”
Roger Firestein, lecturer of creativity, provides a historical viewpoint in “40 Years of Problem Solving in 8 Minutes.”
In “Making School Better with Just One Question,” Kathryn Haydon holds the seeds that have the potential to transform the learning landscape for millions of students worldwide.
Lisa Pugsley knows parents can raise their children to be more creative starting at birth and will explain in her talk, “Parenting and Creativity: What the Research Shows Us.”

“I’m thrilled to have such an exciting roster of speakers for the CEE Talks,” said Marie Mance, interim chair of the Center for Creativity. “These talks will inspire people to apply creative problem-solving skills to the challenges and opportunities we all face as the world changes and technology evolves.”

The presenters include faculty and alumni from the center, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The daylong event begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes a continental breakfast and an interactive lunch. It will be held in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall. Registration for the Sunday CEE talks is $75 per person, $50 for educators, and $35 for students.
