Football Falls to Brockport, 42-14

BUFFALO, NY—Brockport’s Bob Darnley went 15-for-20 for 190 yards and two touchdowns as he guided the Golden Eagles to a 42-14 victory today at Buffalo State.

The Golden Eagles found the end zone on each of its first four times they touched the ball as they sprinted to an early 28-0 lead. Adam Jones opened the scoring just 2:15 into the game on a 20-yard pass from Darnley. Matt Boorom reeled in nine-yard pass from Darnley to go up 14-0. Buffalo State appeared to be driving on the ensuing possession, until Steve Fleming intercepted a Mike Mikolaichik pass and rumbled 80-yards for a touchdown. Darnley scored on a nine-yard scamper early in the second quarter to extend the lead to 28-0.

Buffalo State got on the scoreboard late in the half when Curtis Hathcock pushed the ball across the goal line on a nine-yard run. Brockport scored once more before the half when Darnley broke a quarterback keeper for 44 yards.

Jon Brown added the Golden Eagles’ final score of the game early second half on a one-yard plunge. Buffalo State found the end zone once more after Nick Columbo blocked a punt on the Brockport four-yard line, and Hathcock ran it in on the next play for his second score of the day.

Darnley was Brockport’s leading rusher as he carried the ball three times for 69 yards. Matt Boorom led the Golden Eagles’ receiving corps with four catches for 65 yards.

Mikolaichik was 12-for-31 for 148 yards. Hathcock carried the ball 32 times for 92 yards, and Marc Hoppy led the receivers with five catches for 100 yards. Mike Holbok recorded six tackles and two sacks to lead the defense.

Brockport improved to 5-0 on the season, and Buffalo State fell to 1-4.
