Classical guitarist and former SUNY Buffalo State faculty member Matthew Slotkin will perform the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Leo Brouwer, and Linda Buckley on Friday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Louis P. Ciminelli Recital Hall at Rockwell Hall.
Now the director of the guitar program at Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Slotkin is also an active performer. Recent performances include tours of Argentina, Uruguay, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Greece, as well as concerts at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the Walled City Music Festival, the Monadnock Music Festival, the Chautauqua Institution, and the Guitar Foundation of America.
"I’ve played with Matt and long admired his performance and pedagogical ability,” said Brad Fuster, associate professor and chair of the Music Department. “Matt forged the foundation of our guitar studio at Buffalo State, currently taught by Evan Drummond. To this day, it remains one of the strongest studios we have.”
Buffalo State’s guitar graduates are regularly accepted into graduate programs such as the Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, University of Southern California, and the San Francisco Conservatory.
“This is a continuation of the legacy of quality that Matt started here while he was teaching,” Fuster said. “We are incredibly excited to have him return for a performance.”
Admission is $10 for the general public and free for students, although a ticket is required. Tickets are on sale at the Rockwell Hall Box office, by phone at (716) 878-3005 or online. Free admission tickets are only available in person at the box office with valid student ID.
