Four Bengals Honored on All-SUNYAC Softball Team
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its 2002 post season awards this past weekend with five Buffalo State athletes earning recognition.
Outfielders Stephanie Menth (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) and Nadine Sirianni (Niagara Falls/Niagara Falls) joined shortstop Nicole Willats (Tonawanda/Sweet Home) and designated hitter Heidi Rammacher (Angola/Lakeshore) on the All-SUNYAC Team. Menth, a junior, earned the distinction for the third consecutive season. She had a .333 batting average in 20 conference games and led the team with three triples. Sirianni, a sophomore, earned the award for the second time, as she posted a .415 batting average and a team-high 27 hits. Willats, a sophomore, was third on the team with a .383 batting average and led the Bengals with six doubles and a .600 slugging percentage. Rammacher, who was a medical redshirt freshman after breaking her thumb just nine game into the 2001 season, hit .338 this year as the team's cleanup batter.
Freshman first baseman Alyssa Brosius (N. Tonawanda/N. Tonawanda) also earned conference recognition as she was named SUNYAC Newcomer of the Year. The Bengals leading hitter in conference games, Brosius recorded a .440 batting average in her first collegiate season.
Buffalo State posted a 13-7 conference record and finished as the fifth seed for the SUNYAC playoffs. The Bengals were eliminated from the conference tournament this past weekend with losses to Cortland, 8-7, and Geneseo, 8-4.
