Fourth-Ranked Cortland Too Strong for Women's Lacrosse, 17-2

CORTLAND, NY--Cortland (9-0/1-0) demonstrated why it is the fourth-ranked team in the nation, racing to a 12-0 halftime lead before claiming a 17-2 win over visiting Buffalo State (4-5/0-1) today in a SUNYAC game at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Cortland extended its advantage to 13-0 early in the second frame, before Meagan Powers (Pearl River/Pearl River) put the Bengals on the scoreboard with her eighth goal of the season. After Cortland added four more goals, Erin Silky (Liverpool/Liverpool) notched her fifth goal of the season to complete the scoring with just under three minutes remaining.

Cortland outshot the Bengals 26-13. Katie Rivers (Watertown/Watertown) made six saves in goal for Buffalo State.

The Bengals will play at Fredonia on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
