Fredonia and Buffalo State Win to Open All-Sport Invitational
BUFFALO, NYThe 10th Annual Buffalo State All-Sport Invitational opened today with Fredonia and Buffalo State earning victories.
Fredonia (2-0-1) overcame an early 2-0 deficit to tie the score at 2-2 late in the game, and then went on to prevail in a shootout over Hobart (0-0-1). Jonathan Swift opened the scoring for the Statesmen just 3:07 into the contest with assists from Tyler Dufour and Marc Borden. Hobart extended its lead when Will Bodine found the back of the net just over five minutes later. Fredonia got on the scoreboard midway through the second period on a goal by Tom Briggs from Matt Zemen and Kraig Kuzma. The Blue Devils knotted the score with just 1:33 remaining in the game when Riley McTaggart lit the lamp with assists from Jim Gilbride and Max Catelin. In the shootout, Kuzma and Joe Muli scored for Fredonia, and Simon Maignan stopped all four shooters he faced. Maignan made 25 saves in the game, while Hobarts Adam Lavelle stopped 21 shots.
In the nightcap, Buffalo State (1-2-0) jumped all over visiting Johnson & Wales (0-1-0) and skated to a 10-2 victory. Freshman Mike DeMarco led the attack with a goal and a Buffalo State record six assists. Greg Prybylski tallied three goals and line-mate Mark Yoder added two goals and two assists. Mike Zalewski, Morgan McElman, Ryan Marvin and Matt Samson also scored for the Bengals. Larry Bryan had a goal and an assist for Johnson & Wales and Matt OConnor also scored for the Wildcats.
