Fredonia Sprints Past Women's Basketball, 67-49

BUFFALO, NY—Cheryl Kindzia (Williamsville/Williamsville North) poured in 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead visiting Fredonia (3-1/1-0) past Buffalo State (1-3/0-1), 67-49, tonight in the SUNYAC opener for both teams at the Sports Arena.

Fredonia never trailed as it opened a 29-14 halftime advantage with the help of a 14-5 run over a span of 10:02 early in the first half. Buffalo State missed its first 11 field goal attempts. The Blue Devils led by as many as 28 points in the second half before cruising to the 18-point win. Fredonia outscored the Bengals in the paint, 34-10.

Kindzia was 6 of 12 from the field and added three blocked shots. Karolyn Baker (Olean/Olean) added 16 points, including hitting 10 of 10 from the free throw line, and added six assists. Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) added 12 points, and Lisa Gentile (Utica/Whitesboro) had 10.

Freshman Cat Ejimadu (Buffalo/Bennett) led the Bengals with nine points, hitting 3 of 7 three pointers. Shareese Hamer (Erie, PA/Strong Vincent) had six points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Buffalo State will travel to Oneonta and SUNYIT for two more conference games this Friday and Saturday.
