Geneseo Stuns Women's Basketball, 69-66

BUFFALO, NY—Amanda Haney (Unadilla/Sidney) hit a layup with two seconds remaining and added a pair of free throws with a single tick on the clock to give visiting Geneseo (8-8/3-4) a 69-66 come-from-behind victory over Buffalo State (5-12/2-6) in a SUNYAC game today at the Sports Arena.

Haney led the Knights with 20 points, 13 rebounds and four steals. Annie Verdino (Yorktown Hts./New Hyde Park) scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Lydia Reed (Webster/Webster Thomas) had 10 points and six assists.

Toya Parks (Brooklyn/MLK) led Buffalo State with 22 points and five steals, but committed eight turnovers, including two in the final minute. Shareese Hamer (Erie, PA/Strong Vincent) scored a career-high 20 points and had eight rebounds, and Jacey Brooks (Machias/Franklinville) added 10 points.

Buffalo State shot 50-percent in the opening half and led by as many as 14, before taking a 42-31 lead into the intermission. The Bengals maintained the lead for most of the second half, but Geneseo cut the deficit to just 66-65 with 50 seconds remaining. Buffalo State went to the free throw line with 12 seconds remaining, but missed the front half of the one-and-bonus, setting up Haney’s layup that gave Geneseo its first lead of the game.

Buffalo State will travel to North Country on Friday for a 6 p.m. tip-off at Plattsburgh.
