Holocaust Survivor Speaker Series

As part of the Burchfield Penney Art Center exhibit Anne Frank: A History for Today, three Holocaust survivors will share their stories of courage with the SUNY Buffalo State community.

Sophia Veffer, whose story mirrors that of Anne Frank in many ways, will speak at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17; Marianne Goldstein, who escaped with her grandparents from Nazi Germany in 1936, will speak at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18; and Sol Messinger (pictured center), a survivor of the German passenger boat St. Louis's “Voyage of the Damned,” will speak at noon on Wednesday, September 25. All lectures will take place in the center's Project Space.

The Anne Frank: A History for Today exhibit juxtaposes photographs of the Frank family with images of historical events at the time. Visitors learn about the history of the Holocaust through the Frank family's perspective. The exhibit includes a “Virtual Annex,” where participants choose an avatar to experience Frank’s Amsterdam annex.

The exhibition was organized by the Anne Frank Center USA and is presented in collaboration with Buffalo State's Anne Frank Project.

All programs are free with gallery admission. Burchfield Penney members and Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff receive free admission.
