Hordge Leads Bengals on Opening Day of NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships
OSHKOSH, Wisc.--Willie Hordge (Buffalo/Forestbrook TX) led three Buffalo State athletes competing in the opening day of the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships today at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Hordge was the top qualifier for the finals in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.92, eclipsing the Buffalo State record of 21.10 set by Lamar Smith way back in 1986. Hordge's time was also just .05 seconds shy of matching the all-time NCAA Division III Championship record. Hordge will compete in the finals on Saturday afternoon. He will also attempt to qualify for the finals in the 100-meter dash in tomorrow's trials.
Freshman Toya Edwards (Brooklyn/Clara Barton) and sophomore Lavonne Barfield (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) also competed today. Edwards finished 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.02, and Barfield placed 19th in the long jump at 4.50 meters.
Freshman Tenisha Jones (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) will compete in the triple jump on Saturday.
