Jones' 30 Leads Men's Basketball Past Fredonia, 80-72

BUFFALO, NY—Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham) scored a career-high 30 points to lead Buffalo State (9-10/4-7) past Fredonia (8-12/4-8), 80-72, in a SUNYAC contest at the Sports Arena tonight.

After a first half that featured 12 lead changes, Buffalo State took the lead for good just 3:53 into the second stanza. The Bengals used a 9-0 run later in the half and led by as many as 14, before holding on for the eight-point win.

Jones’ 30 points came on 11-of-14 shooting from the field and he hit 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Dion Mozelle (Rego Park/Xaverian) also scored a career-high with 17 points and had a game-high eight rebounds. Jay Wingate (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) added 15 points, hitting 10-of-12 from the charity stripe, and had five assists.

Chris Donahue (Olean/Olean) led Fredonia with 18 points. Devin Watkins (Franklinville/Franklinville) added 16 points and seven rebounds, and Kyle Gordon (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) scored 11.

Buffalo State will host Brockport next Tuesday at 8 p.m.
