Library Exhibit Features Former Bison Second Baseman
An exhibit celebrating the career of Buffalo Bisons second baseman Lou Ortiz, is on display at Buffalo State College's Butler Library until Apr. 30. Ortiz played for the Herd from 1956-1958.
An outstanding second baseman and the Bison's career home run hitter for second basemen, Ortiz served as a player-coach and leading contributor, to the Buffalo club during a crucial time in Bisons history the first years of community ownership, which established professional baseball in the city.
The exhibit features Ortiz's newspaper clippings, photos and memorabilia from his 13-year career, including his glove. Pictures from his winter league play in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Cuba, and team autographed baseballs from the 1956 and 1957 seasons are also featured.
Ortiz is now 81 and resides with his wife and three children in San Diego, California.
The exhibit was organized by Howard Henry, a lecturer in the Health and Wellness Department, and Cynthia Conides, assistant professor in the History and Social Studies Education Department.
