Moving from Diversity to Inclusion: Cultivating the Potential of All Students

Burchfield Penney Art Center - Tower Auditorium
Blane Harding, a consultant with the National Academic Advising Association, will present this keynote address focusing on broader concepts and actions that will help us understand the role our individual identities play in building relationships with students. We will explore national trends and what they mean to Buffalo State for creating an inclusive campus environment. Please register online.

Forum: Women of Influence and Impact

Moderated by Buffalo State deputy CIO Khaleel Gathers, this forum features a panel of three women
who will talk about their experiences in gaining success in the workplace. Panelists are Jennifer Gress from BlueCross BlueShield, Sarah Tanbakuchi from M&T Bank, and Laura Groschadl, a law clerk for New York State Court of Appeals Judge Eugene M. Fahey. United Students Government presents Club Crawl, a chance for students to check out various organizations on campus and get a look at the activities they partake in. The event will include spinner shades, a zorb ball, a velcro wall, and foot darts.

Breaking Stereotypes, Breaking Boundaries: Life Stories of Muslim Feminists from Myanmar

Thet Su Htwe, a physician and activist, and Kyaw Thein, a civil engineer and activist, will talk about their life experiences as Muslim feminists living in Myanmar, and how their beliefs, attitudes, and actions as feminists automatically leads them to defy expectations and break boundaries. 

Education in Myanmar: Examining Race, Gender, and Religion

Panel discussion featuring Thet Su Htwe; Kyaw Thein; Thamora Fishel, associate director of Cornell University’s Southeast Asia Program; Rhoda Linton, international feminist and activist; and Ph.D. students from Cornell. Panelists will discuss the religious and colonial foundations of the education system in Myanmar and share how race, gender, and religion shape pedagogy and students’ experiences of learning in contemporary Myanmar.

GLC Field Station Teaching Pavilion
Join the Great Lakes Center for its annual open house as faculty members from the center present the 2018–2019 annual report, and updates on the Great Lakes environmental science graduate program as well as current and future projects. The GLC Field Station Teaching Pavilion is located at the foot of Porter Avenue on the Niagara River. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome.
