This week’s big event is the Anne Frank Project: Engage for Change social justice festival on Wednesday, October 2, and Thursday, October 3. Held at various locations throughout campus, the festival is celebrating its 11th anniversary with a variety of lectures, performances, and art exhibits. Concert by Dunwoody Mirvil, visiting performer and assistant professor of music at Southeastern University. Dr. Mirvil is currently the second trombonist with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. He holds a doctor of music in brass performance from Florida State University. Ticket information is available online.

Distinguished Speaker: Alexis De Veaux

Author and activist Alexis De Veaux kicks off the AFP 2019: Engage for Change social justice festival as the distinguished speaker in the Buffalo State College Paul G. Bulger Lecture Series. De Veaux, a poet, novelist, activist, and children’s author, will discuss the art of finding your voice.
Contrapuntal Ecstasy: Rachmaninoff Sonata in Bb Minor

This evening lecture recital by Emily Boyce, associate professor of music at Buffalo State College, features a performance of Piano Sonata No. 2 in Bb Minor, Op. 36, by Sergei Rachmaninoff as arranged by Vladimir Horowitz. Dr. Boyce will present a brief history of the development of counterpoint leading up to the early twentieth century, including a general overview of this great pillar of the piano repertoire and a discussion of some of the outstanding characteristics of Rachmaninoff’s piano writing.

Coffee with a Cop

University police officers and the community members they serve come together over coffee to discuss issues and to learn more about each other. Attending Coffee with a Cop is great way for faculty, staff, and students to get to know the men and women of University Police who serve our campus community.
