Louis P. Ciminelli, a life-long Western New Yorker and community supporter, has been appointed to the Buffalo State College Council by Gov. George Pataki.

Ciminelli replaces Brenda Williams McDuffie, whose term expired in June 2000. McDuffie will continue to work closely with the college as chair of its Community Advisory Committee.

"We are delighted that Lou is joining the council. His wealth of experience and business acumen will compliment and extend our support of the college and its students and programs," said John L. Hoskins, chair of the Buffalo State College Council.

"I am pleased to welcome Lou as a member of the Buffalo State College Council and look forward to his assistance in continuing our rich history of excellence in public higher education. He joins the college at an important time as we develop Buffalo State's next five-year strategic plan," said Muriel A. Howard, president of Buffalo State College.

Ciminelli is chairman and chief executive officer of Louis P. Ciminelli Interests, the umbrella organization encompassing Louis P. Ciminelli Construction Co., Inc; Ciminelli-Cowper Co., Inc.; and Louis P. Ciminelli Management Co., Inc. Together, those organizations employ more than 140 people.

Ciminelli attended Clarkson College of Technology. He joined the Frank Ciminelli Construction Co. in 1974, establishing the Heavy/Highway Division and becoming that division's executive vice president in August 1983.

In 1984, Ciminelli left the Frank L. Ciminelli Construction Co., and founded Paragon Northeast Corporation. He rejoined the Frank L. Ciminelli Construction Co., Inc., as president in 1987, and quickly extended the company's presence outside the Niagara Frontier to successful projects in Corning, Ithaca, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany. In 1989, he acquired Cowper-Siegfried Construction Management to form Ciminelli-Cowper Co.

Ciminelli is affiliated with many local, state and worldwide business organizations. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, the executive committee of the Greater Buffalo Partnership, the Regional Advisory Boards for Empire State Development, the Buffalo-Niagara Enterprise board, and is vice chairman of the New York State Power Authority, a director of BioEconomy Partners, Inc, and chairman of 43 X 79.

A member of the Buffalo State College Foundation Board and the Canisius College Board of Regents, Ciminelli is chair of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's 2001 Annual Fund Drive and serves as a member of its board of directors.
