Men's Basketball Blows Past Fredonia, 74-59
BUFFALO, NY—Senior John Lawal (Hempstead/Uniondale) hit 8 of 9 field goal attempts and scored a career-high 19 points to lead Buffalo State (12-11/7-8) to a 74-59 home victory over Fredonia (6-16/3-11) in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.
Fellow seniors Charles Hepburn (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) and PeeWee Guiden (Bronx/Wade Hampton) each added 12 points for the Bengals. Hepburn also reeled in eight rebounds, and Guiden had six assists and three steals.
Taha Alassari (Brooklyn/Sweet Home) led Fredonia with 16 points, giving him exactly 1,000 points for his career. Adam Smith (Fredonia/Fredonia) added 13 points for the Blue Devils.
Buffalo State never trailed after falling behind 1-0. The Bengals led 39-30 at the intermission and pulled away in the second frame, leading by as many as 18. Buffalo State consistently beat Fredonia in transition, outscoring the Blue Devils 16-0 on the break. Buffalo State also found a mismatch inside, outscoring Fredonia 40-30 in the paint.
Buffalo State will close out the regular season at Oswego on Saturday.
