Men's Basketball Falls Short at Cortland, 75-73
CORTLAND, NY--Frank Ranieri hit a short jumper with just over three seconds remaining to give Cortland (17-2/9-1) a 75-73 victory over visiting Buffalo State (9-9/3-6), in a SUNYAC game tonight at Corey Gym.
After an evenly played opening half ended tied at 36-36, Buffalo State took an early lead in the second frame. Despite never leading by more than five, the Bengals held the lead for much of the way. Cortland's late jumper and a steal on the Bengals' final possession clinched the win.
Charles Hepburn (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) led Buffalo State with 17 points and three steals. Lester McNair (Ithaca/Ithaca) added 13 points. Gregg Jones (Syracuse/Nottingham) and Carlton Guiden (Bronx/Wade Hampton) each scored 11.
Ranieri finished with 11 points. Dave Maggiacomo led Cortland with 24 points.
Buffalo State will host Brockport on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
